Seems like every day I find further proof that the universe
provides. Here’s my latest example.
I’m meeting a woman for coffee to help her with a
resume. I’ve never met her before but
she’s a friend of a friend and I’m happy to help out.
Heidi wants to re-career and be a flight
attendant. Since I love to travel, I’d like to try the airlines
myself but I’d never be able to handle the flying public. If you ever want to see people at their
absolute worse, get on an airplane. And then let them sit on the tarmac for a couple hours.
Back in the day, flight attendants were called stewardesses. That was when flying was semi-glamorous and people
dressed up to get on planes. Now, you’re
lucky if the person next to you has bathed in the past week and doesn’t decide
to clip his toenails in flight.
But I digress. Let me get back to that generous universe…
Something wonderful happened to Heidi on a plane. As she was
driving to the airport to head to a girls’ trip to Las Vegas, she got a call
that her 80 year-old father was severely injured in a car accident back in
Ohio. Heidi struggled with that information and wondered if she should go to Vegas, but ultimately decided to take the
trip.
Her friends all sat together and Heidi ended up sitting
alone with an empty seat next to her.
Prior to takeoff, a woman sat down next to Heidi. They chatted it
up all the way to Vegas and Heidi shared her worries about her father.
“Don’t worry,” the woman said. “I’m going to get you two free tickets to go
back and see him. I’m a flight attendant.”
And so she did. Heidi
took her daughter with her and they got to see her father. He’s still got a
long road to recovery according to Heidi. I wish I could
tell him that all he needs is to ask the universe.
